Sion is a city and capital of Valais, Switzerland.
The Sion area is beautiful for hiking in the alpine valley in the L-shaped valley of Valais which is cut by glaciers between two alpine mountain ranges. Sion is one of the main cities in the region along the river Rhone which cuts through the bottom of the valley, between its source at the Rhone glacier in the east and its temporary destination of Lake Geneva in the west.
This area is home to some of the best spring skiing in the world as well as magnificent Swiss architecture, churches and castles.
Valais is renowned for its top league Swiss soccer team, FC Sion and also famous for its local cuisine, Fondue, Raclette, Cholera and Brisolée.
Main attractions include The Basilique de Valère and the Château de Tourbillon, Basilique de Valère the fortified church in Sion and the Château de Tourbillon castle.
