Nice is a city in southern France located on the Mediterranean coast, between Marseille, France and Genoa, Italy. It is the capital and chief resort of the Riviera.
Nice is well known for the beautiful view on the Promenade des Anglais, its famous waterfront, and is an ethnically diverse port city. The port of Nice is also known as Lympia port. This name comes from the Lympia spring which fed a small lake in a marshy zone where work on the port was started in 1745. Nice is a charming port city blessed with a number of cultural and recreational attractions. Visitors from around the world are drawn to its pebbly beaches and narrow, cobblestone streets
The Place Masséna is the main square of the city, lined with palm trees and stone pines.Since its construction, the Place Masséna has always been the spot for great public events.
The city has two important historic centres the Cimiez hill, where the vestiges of Roman occupation can still be seen and the old Nice that is almost completely pedestrian. The rest of the town consists mostly of beautiful old bourgeois buildings of the last century.
Main attractions include Place Garibaldi, Place Rossetti, Cours Saleya, Place du Palais, Musee franciscain et monastère de Cimiez and Phare et digue.
